SYNOPSIS:
Blind Source Separation (BSS) and Independent Component Analysis (ICA)
in particular, are techniques, which are currently enjoying a lot of interest
in the biomedical field. The techniques available are wide and varied,
and through all of the interest they have currently generated in the field
there is the temptation that these techniques will be used in a 'black-box'
fashion and in situations where the model is not appropriate. This could
have very negative repercussions in the form of erroneous results and
conclusions, simply because the wrong algorithms were inappropriately
used. This event aims to discuss the proper use of such techniques when
applied to biomedical applications and to point out possible pitfalls
in their use in the biomedical field. Delegates attending this event will
learn about the diverse implementations of, and current state-of-the-art
in, BSS and ICA techniques. More importantly is the appropriate practical
implementation of these methods to applications in biomedicine. The event
will also serve as a networking platform for like-minded individuals and
an interface point for theoretically and practically motivated people.

24th European Conference on Microcirculation, Amsterdam, August 30 - September
2, 2006
The 24th European Conference on Microcirculation (ECM) will be held at
the Academic Medical Center in Amsterdam from Wednesday, August 30 to
Saturday, September 2, 2006. We cordially invite you to participate! We
offer you state-of-the-art plenary lectures by world-renowned scientists,
plenary symposia and dedicated workshops.
Topics include angiogenesis, endothelial biology, blood cell - wall interaction,
control of blood flow, permeability and oxidative stress in health and
disease. The importance of microcirculatory research for clinical practice
will be highlighted. There will be ample opportunity for presentation
of free communications in the area of experimental and clinical microcirculation
and vascular biology. Proposals for symposia In order to make the 24th
ECM a scientific success we need your input! Members of National Societies
for Microcirculation as well as non-members are invited to submit suggestions
for symposia.
Please have a look at the website http://www.ecm2006.org
for information on submission of proposals.
Deadline for symposium suggestions is March 31, 2005. Please bookmark
the website and send us an e-mail to remain updated on the program and
deadlines.
