1. Prof.dr.ir. J.M. Thijssen zal per 12 mei 2004 de pensioengerechtigde leeftijd bereiken.
Op 28 mei zal hij zijn afscheidscollege geven. Voorafgaand aan zijn afscheidsrede is een symposium georganiseerd met vooraanstaande binnenlandse en buitenlandse sprekers. Het programma omvat een overzicht van nieuwe ontwikkelingen in het ultrageluid en de mogelijke toepassing van deze in de kindergeneeskunde.

2. Het bestuur nodigt nog kandidaten uit voor de organisatie van de Dag voor de Biofysica 2005.
Er heeft zich inmiddels een serieuze kandidaat aangemeld, maar indien een ander goede redenen en mogelijkheden heeft om de volgende kans te benutten, dan verneemt de secretaris dat graag voor het einde van dit jaar.

We currently have the following 4-years position available for graduate students who want to do their Ph.D. research in our group (junior onderzoeker position):Project title: "Role of G protein-coupled prostanoid receptors in phenotypic transformation of NRK fibroblasts. Molecular biological and cell biophysical aspects"Job description: The project involves a study on the mechanism of phenotypic transformation of Normal Rat Kidney (NRK) fibroblasts with emphasis on the role of cyclooxygenases, prostanoid receptors, intracellular calcium dynamics and the membrane potential in promoting uncontrolled proliferation of the cells. Use will be made of molecular biological approaches to selectively knockdown enzymes and receptors involved, and various applications of the patch clamp technique, in combination with advanced microscopic cellular imaging techniques, to measure membrane potential, ion channel activity and calcium dynamics. Job requirements: Qualified candidates for the Ph.D. position for experimental cell biological research on fibroblasts should have completed their M.Sc./graduate degree in molecular cell biology, biochemistry or molecular life sciences with a clear interest in cell biophysics.Salary and benefits: It is a full time position for a period of four years. Salary will start at Euro 2155 before tax per month in the first year and will increase to Euro 2490 before tax per month in the fourth year. 5. Opschoning adressen m.b.t. e-mail.
De in de vorige Nieuwsbrief aangekondigde actie is succesvol gebleken. Diverse leden waren behulpzaam bij het opsporen en actualiseren van adressen. De lijst met probleemgevallen is dankzij uw hulp met ongeveer de helft gereduceerd.
